Preparing to Shop at the See Me Save Consignment Sale!

see me save consignment

Last week I shared with you how to prepare to sell at a consignment sale. This week I’m going to share with you how I prepare to shop the consignment sale.  Before I go to the sale I want to make sure I know what our family needs.

  • Take an inventory – If you have kids I would suggest going through their clothes for the upcoming season.  I have an idea of what my kids need…7 – 10 pairs of pants, 10 – 15 tshirts, 6-8 dresses for my daughter, dress shoes for both, 5 pairs of pjs for each, etc.  Then I will go through the kids clothes and (they hate this part) have them try on everything they have.  Yes, this takes some time and I split it out between a few days, but this way I know for sure what they have that fits.  If it no longer fits, it’s going to my sell pile.  If it still fits then I can count that towards their items needed for the season.
  • Measure your kids – With a tape measure and write down their measurements.  You know how it is…you say you need a certain size only to find out the sleeves are too short.  At least that’s how it seems to work for me.  What I like about consignment sale items is they have usually shrunk the amount they are going to shrink, so you’re getting the true fit.  I will measure their inseam and length of their arms along with taking a torso measurement (my kids have long torsos) and I’ll also measure their waist.
  • Measure their feet – What I like to do is put my kids feet on a piece of cardboard and trace around their foot.  That way when I find a pair of shoes that look like they might fit I can slide the cardboard in to make sure it will fit…some shoes are more narrow than others.
  • Take an inventory of any other items you may need (or want).  We are going to have so many great items at this sale for both kids and adults!  We have some great dining room sets, outdoor furniture, household items, kitchenware, clothings for all ages and sizes, purses, jewelry, candles and so much more!  You really don’t want to miss this sale!

Make sure you check out the Spring See Me Save Consignment Sale….it starts next Wednesday (3/26) at 10am!!!

Review & Giveaway ~ Dial Vitamin Boost Body Wash

dial vitamin boost body wash

Recently I had the chance to try out the new Dial Vitamin Boost Body Wash and I have to say I LOVED it!  Left my skin feeling very soft, which has been nearly impossible for any other body wash to do this past winter.  The couple of weeks I used this body wash I didn’t find that I had to put lotion on as soon as I got out of the shower.  And the smell….wonderful!  I had the chance to try the Amazing B Body Wash (the green one).

The new Dial Vitamin Boost Body Wash is lotion infused for healthy and softer skin.  Vitamin B is a natural humectant that helps draw in moisture and keeps your skin hydrated.

I’m excited to share that as a Purex Insider I’ve been given 3 coupons for a FREE bottle of the new body wash to share with 3 readers!  Want to enter to win one of these coupons?  It’s very easy to do….just complete the Rafflecopter below.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

This giveaway will run through this Friday, March 21st at 10:59pm.  At that time 3 winners will be chosen.  Winners will have 48 hours to respond with their mailing address or we will need to select an alternate winner.

*The Dial brand provided me with a sample of Dial Vitamin Boost Body Wash in exchange for a product review.  However, all the opinions expressed here are my own as always.  You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Kids Bowl Free Registration

kids bowl free Something our family enjoyed last summer was the Kids Bowl Free program.  With Kids Bowl Free we were able to get 2 free games of bowling every single day of the summer.  Of course we didn’t go every day, but it was nice to have that freebie on rainy or extra hot days throughout the summer.

You can sign up for this freebie today.  Once summer is here you’ll get an email each week with your coupons for free bowling.  You will need to rent your shoes each time you bowl.  Still a great deal!

Preparing to Sell at See Me Save Consignment

Over the next couple of days I’m going to share my tips on preparing for and shopping at a consignment sale. I’ve shopped consignment sales for several years now and started my own whole family consignment sale a few years ago.  I have found it’s a great way to save and make some extra money.

What I love about consignment sales is you can drop items off and everything is so organized. You take your items in, put them up on the rack by size/gender, place your other items on the tables and walk out.  Consignors, Vendors and Volunteers are able to shop the presales and get a look before the public. I love that I get to choose my own price and choose if I want to donate or pick up my unsold items (which are very few)!  I love that I get a check quickly after the sale and that I get to keep a percentage of the selling price! The list goes on and on, but those are the things I absolutely love about consignment.

see me save consignment

Are you ready to sell now?

Here’s how I prepare:

  • At the end and beginning of each season (along with during each season) I set aside the clothes we no longer wear or my kids no longer fit in to. All of the outgrown items (toys, clothes, whatever we no longer need) goes in to a tub in our storage area labeled Consignment Sale.  I also have a donation box for the items that I don’t think would be a fit for the consignment sale. Only the best of the best go in the Consignment Sale box. We just add to it as we go along. This way it’s easily accessible when it’s time to prepare for the sale!
  • Now it’s time to start tagging.  I will bring one box to my computer at a time and enter my items.
  • When I am pricing I keep the buyer in mind. Honestly, I’m doing all this work to get rid of this stuff, I sure don’t want to bring it back home with me. It’s very easy to get caught up in the “I paid $40 for this outfit 2 months ago, so surely it’s still worth $40”, but it’s not. The main thing is don’t overprice your items. It’s a consignment sale and you want to get rid of your items! When I’m pricing I try to think of what I would be willing to pay for the item…not too high, not too low.  Another good rule of thumb is price items at 30 – 40% of what you paid new if the item is in great condition.  If it’s like new with tags on it still you might be able to get a little more….say 50 – 65%.
  • Once I have my tags, I will put the clothes hangers (adult denim jeans folded for my sale). One tip I highly recommend…. Mark your hangers!!! Tie a ribbon around the top or mark it with tape. This makes is so much easier to find your items on pick up day if you are picking up. And then attach your tags to your items.  I use clear packing tape on most items that are not clothes.  You can use painter’s tape on items you think might get damaged with pack tape.  Now on to the next tub.
  • Once I have tagged all my items I will start sorting. I sort by gender and size and set aside.  This makes it so much faster at drop off to get my items put away.
  • At this time I usually get on a roll and decide there’s got to be more to get rid of. I’ll make a final run through of the house to see what else I can sell.  Now your items are all ready to go!

Now go sign up and get ready to Sell at the See Me Save Spring Consignment Sale!  You have through this Sunday at 9pm to get all items entered.  While this might not seem like a lot of time….it is.  I’m just this week getting started on my own items and this is what many of our consignors do….wait until the last few days to enter it all.  :)
